Today we returned to the hilltop kaki grove to try to finish checking our mistakes, to pick persimmons that didn’t grow well, and to work on an interesting project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I spent most of the morning hunting down any places where we left more than one kaki on a branch or where the fruit grew awkwardly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These bunches are our main target!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaki like this are also a waste of their trees’ resources, so we pick them from the trees, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have some trouble with this activity, since I don’t know as much about taking care of these trees as Kogura and Shiromoto-chan do. However, I did learn something from Kogura-san today, namely that shoots like this one that grow straight up are new and may need to be pruned so that they can grow well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This shoot isn’t ready to grow fruit yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After it hit 11 a.m., I got to work on my second task for the day, which was to clear the path of these electrified wires around the farm:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’re going to put some of the persimmons on the trees in alcohol-filled bags soon, and they might start to attract boar living in the woods. To keep them out, we’ll need to get this electric fence up and running. I just think that the range of different techniques used around the farm is cool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
